Flashy Lights & Late Nights

WPPI 2012
las-vegas-2012

We arrived

around 5:30, checked into the hotel and made our way upstairs. The doorbell dinged on the 25th floor and we were greeted by screams and “woohooooo’s” from Buddy and Jill! They arrived a few hours before us and we couldn’t WAIT to see them! We’re staying at the Signature at the MGM and our room is amazing…. and did I mention the VIEW?! The view is incredible!!!! Vegas has never looked so beautiful! We’re loving our time here. The people, the food and the community is absolutely amazing!! THANK YOU to everyone who has said hello, given hugs and have  gone out of your way to make new friends!

It was a

HUGE room full of TONS and TONS of photographers…. not only was the room full of PHOTOGRAPHERS… they were full of WOMEN Photographers. SCARY.  There was a seminar at WPPI last year that had a panel of female photographers talking about their businesses and how they handled “LIFE” while working full time in this crazy industry. There were about 7 women on the Panel and then one woman hosting the event. She casually mentioned that she felt like “Oprah” standing up there!  So, me being the obnoxious person that I am… I tweeted the panel and said something along the lines of

Michael and I

went to see the movie “Super 8″ as soon as it came out. It was one of those movies that he really wanted to see because he loves the director and I just followed him to the theater. The young boys in the movie were funny and awkward…. and halfway through, one of the kids started referring to everything as “Mint!”. Like, “Aw, that’s so MINT!”.  Wait what? Why have I NEVER heard that phrase used before? Do I live under a ROCK? Did no one else think that was a weird phrase?! I wondered about it for the remainder of the movie until I got home and looked it up on “Urban Dictionary”.  Sure enough, people in England have been coining this term for decades.

Michael and I

had a “discussion” last night during our trip to Walmart to get our WPPI travel supplies.  I said I thought this would be my 3rd year to Vegas… he said “No this is definitely your 4th year!”. Really?! 4 years?! I remember my first trip to WPPI like it was yesterday! The desert, the neon lights, the LONG hallways and the overwhelming sense that you’re all alone. I feel like everyone is blogging and tweeting about how much FUN WPPI can be and only a few are telling the truth about how it can feel to a newcomer. My first year, I went knowing that I was the new girl…. and many cases, I STILL AM the new girl! There are photographers attending WPPI for the thousandth time

Classic Winter Wedding Shoot

They were

married last New Years Eve.  The weather was a dream come true and everyone was excited…. but Tony was sick. He felt awful on their wedding day.  They did their best to make it through the portraits and continue on to the reception. Even though it wasn’t the ideal situation, they made the most of it. Kara told me this story when we started emailing a few months back. I was heartbroken for her. She explained that she REALLY wanted to relive the portrait part of her wedding day and so we made it happen! I met Tony and Kara in downtown Richmond last week for a “Married” shoot.  They got back into their wedding attire and we treated their portrait session
