A Bird Inspired Richmond VA Wedding

They walked

into our house for a little get together. Michael and I had only been in Richmond a few months but we had heard about how awesome the college kids were and so as soon as they got home for Christmas, we invited anyone over that wanted to come. I remember meeting Patrick and Emilie specifically because they already seemed like they were engaged. What I mean by that is, it was just obvious how awesome of a pair they were. I loved meeting Patrick because he’s hilarious and then I really loved getting to know Emilie because she has such a great heart and a calm spirit. I don’t think anyone would ever describe me as having a CALM anything!

Prayer for the 2013 Youth Mission Trip

Right now

I’m probably sleeping on a slightly deflated air mattress on the floor of a high school somewhere on the Eastern Shore. Yup. I’m on our annual mission trip! You can view last year’s trip HERE! It was a BLAST and I’m excited to be involved again this year. I’m just hoping I’m not in charge of power washing again, that really wasn’t the safest job for me to have last year!! During our stay on the Eastern Shore we’ll be working on 30+ construction projects, leading VBS, serving veterans and trying to survive the heat! It’s going to be amazing!! It hit me

in June…. like a ton of bricks. I love what I’m doing and I am SO thankful for where my business is. However, I realized something very eye-opening and somewhat scary in June. This “something” made me stop in my tracks and literally pray for a change. I was so busy that I had stopped growing. I was so busy that I couldn’t even finish ONE project of my own. It was only May and I had already started the late nighters, the 10 hour workdays at my desk and the feeling of stress was creeping into my life slowly but surely. I only had 4 weddings in May and even though I turned them around within a week

Finding locations

for shoots isn’t always the easiest task….especially when you’re long distance. Brittani and Dustin are living in South Carolina but Britt grew up in Maryland and so they decided to make a trip home for their engagement shoot. Since Britt is a fabulous photographer (check out her cute blog!), we both knew that their location needed to be beautiful and very “them”. That’s why it’s so great to work with other photographers! They just GET stuff like that automatically! So when Brittani told me that she found a location that was owned by a friend at home, I was all for it! I was excited… just like any shoot…

I had heard

some people mention “professional lighting” before my wedding but I never paid any attention to what it was. It didn’t seem like a necessity at the time. And then as I continued looking at magazines and reception images, the shots that caught my eye were so COLORFUL and evenly lit and VIBRANT.
