Quantity vs. Quality in Blogging
consistency-in-blogging

Let’s be honest.

Blogging EVERY WEEKDAY is hard work. REALLY hard work! It takes time, creativity, spell checking (which I’m horrible at!) and consistency! It’s not something that just happens… I have to PLAN it out and MAKE it happen. Some days I roll out of bed and the LAST thing I want to do is write up a blog post. But I do it anyway. Why? Because CONSISTENCY matters. In my opinion, consistency makes it or breaks it in the blogging world! Now do I think that EVERYONE needs to blog EVERY day? No,….. but it is helpful.  The two top blogs that I check DAILY are Justin and Mary and Jasmine’s.  Why do I check them first EVERYDAY?

Defining Your Style

It didn’t happen

on a specific DAY or at ONE specific shoot.  As much as I WISHED for an overnight success, it didn’t happen that way for me. My first 8 months in business I felt like I was wandering.  I saw images that I loved and STYLES that I wanted to emulate but I just didn’t know how to get there. Gradually, over the course of a few weddings and several engagement sessions… it started to CLICK! I started to realize that my work was evolving into a STYLE. What do I mean by a “Style”?  Well, most photographers have a style of their own.  It’s a  consistent pattern of shooting and editing styles that make him or her unique.

Ever heard the

phrase “Making something outta’ Nothing”?   Maybe the “outta” is the country coming out in me but you get the point. I feel like this phrase perfectly describes that I have to do when  I’m searching out locations for portraits before a wedding day. Some of the places I choose are weird, odd and downright ugly! But hey, if the LIGHT is good….. I’m going to shoot there and luckily, my clients trust me enough to let me do just that. The last wedding I shot took place at a church in Downtown Hampton, VA. While  Hampton is on the water and there are parts of town that used to be over-the-top gorgeous….it can be a little tricky to find

Hello to the

late afternoon crowd! I’ve been running around like crazy today and I’m just now getting a chance to sit down at the computer for an hour before the next event of the day begins. I’ve been doing things like grocery shopping, speaking at a local high school’s photo class, grabbing a quick lunch with my husband before he drives to DC for class and searching for a 16×20 white frame at all the local Targets so that I can finish my “Production Wall” Re-vamp. I feel much better after I list what I’ve spent all morning doing because I really HATE being a late blogger! Ugh. Who wants to read a blog post at 3:30 in the afternoon? Everyone is tired and ready to be HOME!

Time Savers | Photo Mechanic

Have you

ever seen something that looks so old school and un-cool that you just decide to NOT give it a chance at ALL. You know what I mean…. like hole-in-wall restaurants or ghetto-fabulous boutiques? Sometimes the GREATEST things are in the nastiest places! Seriously! The last engagement session I posted was shot in one of the ROUGHEST areas of Richmond… but yet the locations were beautiful! So, as we approach this “Time Saver” post… keep this in mind. Photo Mechanic, in my opinion, doesn’t LOOK legit. I mean really, look at that logo!  When I was first introduced to PM, I thought to myself, I am NOT paying $150 for a program
