Editing Manually | Part 1
manual-editing

Welp!

Here it is…. my first, somewhat in depth post about editing. It’s not that I don’t want to share how I edit, I really don’t mind at all. HOWEVER, I am fearful of showing newer photographers EXACTLY what I do because part of the development of my style came from learning on my own. When I first started shooting, someone told me about ACTIONS. They were magical to me. Absolutely magical. With the touch of a button in Photoshop, my blues were bluer, my greens were greener and my images were BETTER!!!…. Or so I thought. I remember shooting and glancing at the back of my screen and thinking

Shooting Accessories

I love

TEAL….. it’s kinda obvious around here. And I love jewelry! So naturally, I really love TEAL JEWELRY! I have more teal necklaces than I do pairs of socks…. I think that’s actually true! It’s obsessive but I do wear them daily! Jewelry and accessories are a girl’s best friend if you can’t afford diamonds. Please, who needs diamonds when you can get a knockoff bubble necklace from ebay?! Accessories “make” the outfit and complete the “look”.  So when I’m shooting a bride and groom, I make a point to shoot the details. Boutonniere, bouquet, necklace, dress detail, earrings etc, etc.

OCF Placement
off-camera-flash-setup

A few weeks

ago  blogged about my new found love for the Canon 600 Ex-Rt’s. This is a new flash system that Canon announced in the early 2012 and the flashes have transmitters BUILT IN. So I don’t deal with Pocket Wizards or Radio Poppers or ANYTHING! I just set up my OFC, put my on-camera flash in the shoe mount and sync them with one click! Amazing? YES. I love them! I shoot with my On-camera flash set on Manual and my OCF on ETTL. The only disadvantage of these flashes is that if you’re shooting with a Mark II, you can’t set one flash to Manual and one to ETTL. I know that’s a bummer and it’s keeping a lot of people from investing in them.

Splurging, Organic Marketing and Saying No!

I received an

email from a frustrated photographer asking HOW in the world do I convince my clients that my PHOTOGRAPHY is worth the investment. She wanted to know how to educate clients about the VALUE of her work and share with them how important it is to have BEAUTIFUL images of this monumental part of their life. I wish it was as easy as saying “This day only happens once, so hire a GREAT photographer!”…. but that’s not enough. Brides are on budgets and they have so many other vendors to pay besides US!  They want a good deal and they want to get it as CHEAP as possible. I understand this because I was a bride

The Canon 600 EX-RT Review
canon-600-ex-rt-review

I’m not one

to get into technology debates. Maybe that’s because I never feel like I’ve mastered anything enough to add my two cents… even though most of the debates that I hear are between people that don’t ever shoot WEDDINGS! So here I am shooting every weekend and yet I don’t want to offer my opinion about certain lenses or flashes or ISO settings because I feel inferior. Umm, I need to get over that!! I’ve shot over 100 weddings and so I THINK I should be able to have an opinion on some things. When I first started, I just listened quietly ….I read reviews on equipment, I listened to people rave and complain and I tried to take note of how people
