Mandy's Bridals

A Garden Themed Bridal Shoot

I feel like

it was just last month that we were shooting Jill’s Bridal session at the Farm.  It’s crazy how fast a YEAR can fly by! Now it’s Mandy’s turn and I’m SO glad we made this little shoot happen before their big day! It gave me a little taste of what Mandy and Josh’s Wedding was going to be like and I couldn’t WAIT! Mandy’s details were insane! She worked SO hard on her wedding in the midst of Student teaching and graduating and to be honest, I’m not sure how she did it!  Mandy ACTUALLY told Jill and I that she hadn’t really done much for the wedding, just made a few things here and there.

I hopped in

the car, pulled out of our driveway and headed toward the city. I glanced in my rearview mirror and that’s when I spotted them.  You couldn’t miss them. There were huge, black clouds encroaching the city of Richmond and panic set in. I was thinking “Where in the world did this storm come from and WHERE are we going to shoot this bridal session?!”.  Lauren’s hair was up, her makeup was done, her dress was on and she was getting married in two weeks. This session HAD to happen. So I frantically called some venues in Richmond and begged for permission to shoot indoors last minute if the heavens let loose and after

It was Michael’s

day off and so we drove to Charlottesville to meet a friend for lunch and then drove through the rolling hills to Barboursville Vineyard .  We were meeting Laura there to shoot her bridal session and as soon as we pulled up, I knew this was going to be a fun one! Old ruins? Fields of daffodils?! Yes please! Laura looked amazing and so natural. I never did a bridal session before my wedding and every time I shoot one for somebody else, It makes me wish I had! Maybe I still will! Bridal sessions are awesome because they allow the bride to get comfortable in her dress AND in her shoes! It’s like a trial run!

This idea

started in Vegas at WPPI. We had met Ali at the beginning of the week and we were able to spend a lot of time together. This trip was a crazy one for Jill because it was hard for her to focus on business stuff when she was in the middle of planning a WEDDING!  We were talking about her plans and her dress and their farm (you’ll hear about that on Thursday!) and we casually mentioned that we should do a bridal session…. just for fun! And then we were like “No, really…. lets do this!” And we put it on the calendar that moment. The crazy thing is that it HAPPENED! I drove up to the farm, Ali met us there

I love

bridal sessions! Normally, if a bride opts for a bridal session, they have also done an engagement session and so by the time the wedding comes around, I have worked with the bride on two different occasions.  This makes a HUGE difference on the wedding day. I get to know the bride so much more and show up to the wedding knowing what poses she likes most and how to make her feel most comfortable…. and every bride wants that on her wedding day. Trust me.  Emily and John were married on Saturday and I absolutely loved being there.  After engagements and then Em’s bridal session with her and her mom, I felt like I was a part of the family!
