WPPI Roadshow

Washington DC
jasmine star wppi roadshow katelyn james photography

she started by

proclaiming that she doesn’t have all the answers, that her way isn’t the necessarily the “right” way and that she doesn’t have it all together.  “Oh Jasmine” I thought to myself….” You’re Wonder Woman and you don’t even know it”…. and that’s the truth.  That girl has got more energy, knowledge and heart that any other photographer I know. Today Michael and I, along with Jessie, Michelle and a TON of NEW FRIENDS (that I love!) attended the WPPI Roadshow in DC.   It was good… the speakers in the morning had great information…. but I’m a spoiled brat when it comes to hearing photographers speak.

The Photographer's Crutch

Editing

Editing can be

a crutch. There it is…. the cold hard truth.  The only reason I can say this is because it used to be MY crutch.  In my opinion, the most detrimental thing that could happen a new photographer is the discovery of PS actions. I remember when I discovered Yang and Ying…. all of you TRA action users know the lingo….I was amazed! You mean I could lighten and darken ANY part of my image? Just with one click?! All of a sudden my dark, underexposed faces were ok! All of my weaknesses in shooting manually were gone! Life was good! ….. or so I thought.  What was really happening was that I stopped LEARNING and started ….

Making it yours

Being a photographer of originality
ask anything photographer questions

You can never

know what you’re going to get with a location. One thing I have learned from trial and error and from some other fabulous photographer’s with way more experience than I have… is that you have to work with what you’ve got! (not proper English, I know) I remember showing up to a wedding when I was first starting and thinking to myself…. oh my…. this location is miserable…there aren’t going to be ANY good portraits… I’m totally sunk.  I was looking for the perfect spot, the perfect light and the perfect portrait. But what makes a portrait perfect? I was so concerned with looking for perfection that I missed my opportunity for originality.

What do you think?!

A LOT has happened within the last two months for the business. It’s been a whilrwind! I am so thrilled to be officially re-branded! The updated website has been launched and the new blog made its’ big debut a few weeks ago! Not only did I introduce a new blog, I introduced the DesignBook! Now you can have your VERY OWN space on the blog to collect and categorize your favorites! This was such a huge project and risk for me. No other photographer has done this before and so I was excited/nervous to see how people would react!

Introducing the DesignBook!

Welcome to the new blog!

The DesignBook

First of all, WELCOME to the new blog! I am so incredibly excited about this I can hardly stand it! The project has been in the works for a VERY long time! I wanted a new blog, something fresh, classy, and totally my style. I wanted this to incorporate my love for design and and I also wanted it to be 100% UNIQUE! So here is the story of the new DesignBook feature….. It all began on this scrap of paper.  It was 3am.  As usual, I was sitting on my bed with my roommate Britney and we were discussing blogs and social media (such nerds).  We started brainstorming about a new blog and creating something TOTALLY different!…(Click View Full Post!)
