  • Unconditional Love

how long I’ve been away…. It doesn’t matter how long he’s been bored in his crate because I was out running errands all day…. It doesn’t matter that sometimes I’m not in the mood to play fetch and throw Mr. Polar Bear across the room 10,000 times. … it doesn’t matter.  He holds nothing against me.  He just LOVES me. No matter what, Bokeh makes me feel like I’m the GREATEST person alive every time I walk into the kitchen.  He just LOVES…. unconditionally. Who knew you could learn so much from a PUPPY?! If I could love like Bokeh loves….

I would be SUCH a better person….a more Godly woman…. a greater friend… a more loving wife. If I could learn to just look at the people in my life like Bokeh does…. my heart would be so FREE! There is something so pure and simple about Bokeh’s love for Michael and I… and if you’re a dog person (which we officially ARE now:)…. you understand what I’m talking about.  He loves us SO much….no matter how mean we can be… no matter how long we’re away from him…. he’s ALWAYS ready for us to come back home so that he can love us some more.

Does this sound familiar? Does this sound like this could be an analogy to something bigger? Yes. There is a MUCH bigger picture being painted here….. this is how God views US… all of us. I don’t care what your background is or where you’ve been or what you’ve done or how long you’ve turned away, the Lord is just waiting for us to come home to Him.  He’s waiting for us to come home so that He can show us how much He loves us.  He may not do that in the form of tail wags and wet puppy kisses but the idea is the same.  There’s nothing we can do to make him turn away. Nothing. It doesn’t matter.  The GRACE and LOVE that we feel from Bokeh everyday is just a small reminder of the unconditional love and grace of God that is available to us. It’s a beautiful thing to be loved despite your failures and shortcomings. Today, I’m thankful for GRACE… for unconditional LOVE… and for a fluffy puppy that reminds me of the stuff that actually MATTERS in life!! Have an amazing weekend everyone.

Katelyn! I couldn’t agree with you more! My husband and I love our puppy so so much! We too, have turned into “those people”, but we don’t care! haha This is such a great post to share because sometimes we are just consumed in our lives that we don’t sit back to take a look at the “bigger picture”. Have a great weekend and enjoy all the puppy kisses you can!!

Beautiful! Seriously… I couldn’t have said it better. Isn’t it so cool to see how God places the smallest things in our lives to remind us of Him? His love and beauty is reflected in everything, we just need to have our eyes opened to see it. SO wonderful to see you yesterday! :)

AMEN. love this so much. I’ve often thought about that same thing while hanging out with my dog. :)
btw, it was SO great to finally meet you last night at The FIX. Hopefully someday we’ll get to hang out for real without squeezing through 10000 people in a small room. ;) I can’t imagine what time you must’ve gotten home – we didn’t get back until 1am!

You are so right, although we don’t have a dog right now (I grew up with them though). We do have an indoor cat who we just adore and she also loves us unconditionally….our daughter and our cat has such a special bond, it’s really sweet!

AMEN and AMEN! To love is freedom! Sacrifice of self for the better of others. To truly give without expecting in return. DOG is GOD backwards. Something we talk about a lot in our home. God treats us the exact same way all of the time – no matter what. He just wants to love us. It is up to us to accept it! Loved hugging you in person last night!!!

I understand 100% where you are coming from. My hubby and I are owned by 2 pugs and they remind me of how much I need to be like them. What a great post!!

Katelyn, this is a wonderful post! My husband and I are renting, so we can’t have a pet, but I grew up on a farm and never have been pet-less until I left for college. We are now house hunting and the first thing we are going to do is get a dog or a puppy. We are thrilled! I hope to use our dog as a reminder of God’s love for each and every one of us – it’s so true! Thanks for giving me that perspective that I sometimes lose. Bokeh’s photos make my heart swell up – I can’t take how cute he is!

Hi Katelyn, I have followed your blog for a while but have never really commented on your posts before. Today that has changed. I have always admired how you utilize the network of your business to publicize more than your pictures. Your blog post today is testament to that. I actually clicked over to the blog today intentionally to email you about this. I am not sure if you have heard of the organization Invisible Children or their new cause Kony 2012. if you haven’t, here is a link to a video http://www.kony-2012.com/kony-2012-video/. I am currently living abroad in a country that confines my ability to take action and share this worthy cause, which pains me. As a christian, it is so hard to live out the commitment we have made to follow in His footsteps and ask ourselves “how can I make a difference”. Well, I am reaching out to you today because I know you are a woman who does make a difference. Your business has exploded in such a short time not just because your picture are AMAZING but because you are positive, and spread joy and love. I know I have rambled on and on, so I will close this up by just saying that I admire what you do and hope that you might help spread this worthy message and cause. Thanks ~ Amanda

This is so true! I just bought a Maltese/Poodle mix pup and she, too, epitomizes unconditional love. She’s been staying with my parents for the past few weeks, but I get to bring her home this weekend and I can’t wait!
