Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

Come Together

  • We're Joining Forces : KJ & Amy and Jordan!

Normally, it’s late… because 9pm AZ time is midnight our time! Normally we’re not in our best attire and we look like we’ve been hit by a Mac truck. Normally we have a billion other things going on and hoping on Facetime to laugh at Jordan Demos’s one-liners doesn’t seem like a top priority… but it is. You see, thee are some friendships that are more than just a friendly face and a text on your birthday. Deep, meaningful friendships should move you, push you and nudge you to be the BEST you can possibly be… and that’s who Jordan and Amy are to us.

When Jill and I were sitting in her living room just throwing ideas out into the wind, we never imagined or visualized what last Friday would look like. Last Friday was surreal in many ways. There were many moments that made me stop and take in what was happening. Jill and I decided back in January that we wanted to do a “Wedding Giveaway”. We told the boys our idea and because we have awesome husbands that let us dream big, they started helping us plan. After a few days of planning, we realized that this wasn’t a simple task. Hosting a Wedding Giveaway included contracts and vendors and date selection and social media management and timelines and so on and so forth. It was…. intense.

Real Stories & Real Change | Why Our Heart is in Coaching

  • Coaching for Any Creative Small Business Owner

A few years back I was asked to do one-on-one mentoring by a few people. Only a few other photographers offered mentoring session (like 3 different photographers… crazy, I know). Oh how times have changed. There are hundreds of photographers offering mentoring and coaching these days. It’s not a bad thing. I’m so thankful that the photography industry has embraced the whole “lets love each other” thing so well. Some people worry about photographers offering mentoring too soon while they’re still newbies themselves and my thought is this… GREAT coaches will continue to offer GREAT coaching sessions.
