Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

Shoot & Share Contest

  • Have Fun, Be Recognized.... & Be Organized!

There have been a LOT of giveaways happening lately. We’re currently hosting a giveaway for WPPI and voting began yesterday for our massive wedding giveaway. It’s just CRAZY! Often times, photographers get so carried away in marketing and blogging and emails and editing that they don’t take time to really enjoy their work. I know I fall into this category. Sometimes I forget that I didn’t just make money and serve people in 2014, I also created some really pretty pictures!!! Each year the Shoot & Share community hosts a MASSIVE contest for ALL TYPES of photographers! It’s awesome!!! … It’s also really addictive!

Meet the Finalists!!!

  • And Start Voting for Who You Think Should Win!!!

This is a BIG DAY on the blog!! Today we’re sharing the Top 10 Finalists for the Wedding Collective Giveaway!! We spent hours and hours reviewing their entries and I have to say, this wasn’t easy. It’s hard to narrow dozens and dozens of entries into just ten finalists. We laughed, we cried… and I was nervous the entire time! I remember when we hosted a workshop giveaway and it was up to Michael and I to pick the winner… it was miserable! I couldn’t decide and I cried on the living room floor for a good hour! Luckily this process wasn’t quite as hard on me because we had some help. However, I still had my obligatory “Giveway Breakdown”.

When a Client Wants Less Coverage

  • Ask Anything

There are so many different questions that we receive from our inquiries. We have found that we attract less and less clients with differing views on coverage when we blog and share about what is truly an ideal wedding day. We believe that eight hours of coverage is ideal for a perfect day. We won’t shoot weddings for less than 8 hours unless it’s a VERY specific situation (like a destination wedding or elopement). We need that 8 hours to truly tell the story of the day and after 7 years in business, we’ve realized that this is the only way we want to shoot a wedding.
