Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. Handling Criticism

  • Ask Anything

Well, thankfully this is a post I haven’t really felt compelled to write until now. People warned me… “Katelyn, growth doesn’t come without a price”. Our mentors have been telling me this for years. One in particular once told me that if you’re not being criticized, that could be a sign that you’re not taking enough risks. We have hit a place in our business where we can post the most well meaning content and somehow… despite all efforts to cover our bases and state disclaimers…. people will still find a way to be offended.

Today is the Day!

  • The Wedding Collective Giveaway Winner Announced!

Wow… today is the DAY!!!!!!!! What a CRAZY 7 days it has been. Voting began this time last week and we have been absolutely blown away by the excitement and support that people have poured throughout this while process!!! We are SO thankful for everyone who rallied around contestants and helped them fight for the top 5 spots. We’re also thankful for the 65 friends/family of the vendors that made the final decision. It’s a decision that we knew we couldn’t make ourselves. We are so thankful for ALL of the contestants. We love their stories, their personalities, their hearts and their excitement!!!

Transform Your Wedding with Rentals

  • Wedding Wednesday | Featuring Paisley & Jade

After photographing dozens and dozens of weddings, I’ve found that a lot of brides spend A LOT of money on very LOW IMPACT aspects of their day. This isn’t a bad thing, but if you’re a visual bride, your money could be better spent! Instead of spending two hundred dollars on tiny little things (like custom candy, elaborate escort cards, etc) I would put that couple of hundred of dollars towards RENTALS!!! The longer I’m in this industry, the more I realize that rentals are one of the main ways to transform your wedding decor!
