Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

Happy Anniversary Michael!

  • Four Years!

this time four years ago I was getting my hair and makeup done…. only to have my fake eyelashes fall off a few hours later. :) I stressed about so much about my wedding and when the day finally arrived… I could have cared less! I look at our images and I don’t remember ever touching up my makeup (I probably should have!). We rode in a convertible from the ceremony to the reception and my hair was A MESS! …. But I didn’t fix it. I was having the time of my life! Those minor details didn’t phase me. I’m so thankful that despite the stressful planning process, our wedding was an absolute DREAM…

A Charlottesville Engagement Shoot | UVA

  • Michael + Kendall | Engaged

give the weatherman the benefit of the doubt. If he says it’s a 15% chance of rain, we don’t cancel sessions… that’s just not smart. There was a small chance of scattered showers on Friday evening and so we decided to go ahead with our engagement shoot with Michael and Kendall in Charlottesville! We arrived at our first location and as soon as they pulled up, the sprinkles started. I hate having to make the judgement calls in situations like this but it’s my job… so I made the executive decision to travel 20 minutes down the road to UVA’s campus

A Waterside Engagement Shoot | Newport News, VA

  • Steve + Sam | Engaged

I was sentimental… until I met Sam! Sam is the sweetest! And she’s so creative! I loved her ideas for her engagement shoot and it turned out perfectly. Our first stop was at the restaurant where Steve and Sam first met. We didn’t shoot them sitting in the “exact” seats… but it was close!! Next, we shot some portraits under the tree where they shared their first kiss! Then we ended their shoot with a splash of color! Literally!! It was a blast. We left wishing that these two were getting married next month because we just loved them!
