Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

We're taking a Break

  • For the First Time Ever...

This is harder to write than I thought! It’s weird… but also so freeing at the same time. This is our off season… the one time of the year when things are going 100MPH. Michael and I love listening to Michael Hyatt’s podcasts about building platforms and the number one thing he mentions is that CONTENT matters. What you post matters. It needs to be life-enhancing for your audience and it needs to be substantial. I have been blogging for 6 YEARS. Yes…. SIX! And for almost half of that time, I have been blogging EVERY weekday. It’s a part of my life… a part of my schedule. I have been so loyal to this part of my business and you know what?

Off Season Shenanigans

  • Friends, Filming & Puppies

only are we rebranding during this off-season, we’re also helping some friend’s with a fun secret project that hasn’t been released yet! We filmed for two days straight in our living room with a live little audience and it was so much fun! …. A lot of hard work, but fun!! :) Anything awesome takes hard work and so I know that A LOT of photographers are going to be thrilled when they find out what we’re up to! :) After our two days of filming we celebrated with a group of friends in downtown Richmond and then headed back to our house for hot chocolate and some break and bake cookies… my specialty. :)

A Recap in Pictures!

  • Jazz Nativity 2014

was a big weekend for us and our church family. Every year we have our annual Jazz Nativity and it’s honestly the highlight of our Christmas season! Our families get together, our friends come in for the show and it feels like the Christmas season has officially begun! This year was probably my favorite. This was my 3rd year performing and I had a blast. Right before I go on stage I always get nervous and think to myself “Why do I do this to myself?!! Why?!!” I do the same thing before I speak at conferences too! Right before I do something stressful that involves a “performance” of any kind, I wonder why I put myself in these situations.
