Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!Β  Read more...

Take a Little Break from the Daily Demands

  • Refreshed and Reset

It’s been a LONG time since I have been able to blog something other than engagement shoots and weddings. That has been our life the last few months. This is our craziest time of the year and while we’re so thankful for our work and our clients, I’m looking forward to lazy winter mornings when I can blog about Bokeh Boy or a new home decorating project…. or a new Ask Anything post! The end is near and it’s bittersweet. We love this job and I leave every wedding with a huge “Mission Accomplished” feeling!! It’s incredible to look back at the past year and see all that we accomplished.

A Riverside Engagement Shoot | Richmond VA

  • Tony + Gabby | Engaged

we’re headed to shoot an engagement session and meet a new couple for the first time, I always know it’s going to go well when they are CNU alumni! :) I’m a bit biased but I think only awesome people go to CNU! We love that school and we love working with couples that went to our Alma Mater too!! Tony and Gabby are getting married next year and we can’t wait to celebrate alongside of them with our cameras in hand! These two both come from Italian families and from our past experiences from Italian weddings, I think it’s safe to say this is going to be one amazing party!

A Historic Kent Manor Inn Wedding | Maryland Wedding Photographer

  • Matt + Libby

I arrived while hair and makeup was finishing up with the bridesmaids. Everyone looked so beautiful and the room was so relaxed and stress free. The door leading out to the porch was cracked and the windows were open to let the crisp October air in. It was the perfect day for a wedding. When couples plan for an October wedding, this is what they hope for! Sunny and 70 degrees!! Matt and Libby have been together for a long time and so this day has been anticipated for a while now! I just loved seeing everyone’s excitement for these newlyweds!! Matt and Libby are such a dream couple. We needed to get all of their portraits accomplished before the ceremony since the sun set at 6:30 and they were such pros at moving fast! Not only did we shoot some beautiful portraits of the two of them, we took some IN a bean field!! These two were up for anything and we just love that about them!Β
