Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

Our Adventures in The Emerald City

  • Seattle 2014

officially feel like we live with Delta’s flight crew. We have spent so many hours on planes this past month!! It’s kinda sad but I have actually gotten tired of their “Bischoff Cookies”. I used to love those cookies!! We’re not complaining, we love to travel.. but it has felt good to be home this week! Our trip to Seattle was planned close to a year ago and as we got closer to the date, things started to fall into place! For example, we met up with our sweet friends Ike and Tash for dinner in Richmond several months ago and casually mentioned that we would be in their neck of the woods in September.

Handcrafting Your Story

  • H.H. Boogie

have a lot of friends in the industry… friends that we met at conferences, friends that live down the road… friends that we’ve met via the blog… etc. Lots of friends! It’s such a gift! When I ventured into the photography world over 6 years ago, I never entered expecting to find community… much less, lifelong friends! Thank goodness God has other plans. Over 3 three years ago we met Jeremy Kester…. and our life has never been the same! He’s literally one of the funniest, light hearted, most genuine guys we know. The more we got to know him, the more we realized that not only was he hilarious, he was also very REAL.

A Rustic Pacific North West Wedding | Seattle Wedding Photographer

  • Zach + Britta

Her dad spoke up during toast time at the reception and started sharing that it wasn’t strange at all to be welcoming Zach into the family because really, he had already been a part of the family for quite some time. 8 years to be exact! He told the story of how Zach road his dirt bike through the snow to come see Britta one winter and how he had been on almost every family vacation. This story sounded so familiar to us because that’s exactly what it felt like when Michael and I got married. Everyone was celebrating and they had been looking forward to this day for years! Britta’s Maid of Honor mentioned that Zach and Britta’s relationship was what she looked to as her examply of true love and I don’t think there is any higher compliment than that!! These two were truly made of one another. I am friends with my brides on Facebook and I have LOVED watching the countdown to this wedding.
