Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. A Running Hare Vineyard Wedding

  • Ryan + Laura

As soon as we met Ryan during their engagement session, I knew that this was going to be an entertaining wedding day! Ryan is hilarious!! He had people laughing throughout the whole event and even though Laura sometimes has to reign him in a little bit, I think that’s one of the things she loves most about him. Ryan is the type of guy that could make ANYTHING fun! These two are a perfect match because Laura is so laid back!! Their personalities compliment each others so perfectly!! The more time I spent around this sweet couple, the more I loved them! There’s just something about how Ryan looks at her that makes your heart melt. They are such an amazing couple and you’ll definitely be able to see how just much they adore each other through their images!! As a photographer, that’s a dream couple!! I love photographing couples whose love is so outwardly evident!!

A Big Day in Sparta!

  • Celebrating 25 Years

God has multiple careers and jobs for people to do. I think at one time I heard that the average person changes careers or jobs 3-4 times during a lifetime. I’ve always wondered…. “How long will my career last??”. What happens when Michael and I aren’t young and 100% relatable to our young brides and grooms? What happens then?! Well, thankfully we’re trusting that God has a plan for that season of our life and we’re not stressing about it. I hope we can do photography for a lifetime but I know that not many people are blessed by a lifelong career.

A Downtown Alexandria Speaking Engagement

  • CAP Photography Meetup

week has kind of been a blur to us! We had an out of state wedding, hosted sweet friends of ours from Arizona, spoke in DC, gave our friends a tour of the most beautiful parts of the valley, then a Showiteer event, Coaching, trip to visit my nanny, engagement shoot and now we’re hanging out with my sister and her husband before tonight’s eshoot and wedding tomorrow. Whew. This is what October always looks like for us. Just plain CRAZY. After sleeping in this morning and not worrying about getting my post up at the crack of dawn, I feel refreshed.
