Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

A Countryside Anniversary Shoot

  • Justin + Anna | Married

all are going to think that I’m transitioning into just an “Anniversary” photographer with all of these shoots this week! The truth is, I don’t normally shoot many of these at all…. so when I do, it’s a real treat!! It was an extra special treat this time around because I was photographing some dear friends of mine!! I’ve known Anna FOREVER…. like since I was born! And Justin came into our lives many years back. He fits in so seamlessly with our friends and family that it’s hard to remember that I haven’t known him for a lifetime!

A Baseball Themed Engagement Shoot | Turner Field, Atlanta

  • Lance + Colleen | Engaged

….I could hear her excitement through her email! Colleen wrote to me in ALL CAPS and with a bazillion exclamation marks! She was ENGAGED!!! It was finally her turn! After years of following the blog, she was the one inquiring with a ring on her finger and she was SO EXCITED! The excitement continued as she booked and we started thinking about her engagement session! She jokingly mentioned that Lance LOVED the Braves and how cool would it be to shoot their engagement session on Turner Field?!  (Lance… you’re a lucky man!!)

A New York State Wedding |Destination Wedding Photographer

  • John + Lisa

There are so many similarities between me and Lisa. The more time I spent around her, the more I became aware of them. For example, she’s known in her family for being the one that has just a little bit of “clumsy” in her! That’s totally me!! I think there was one summer where I literally had 6 bike accidents in a row!! I learned this about Lisa when she almost took a tumble during the first look! While some brides would let that tarnish the moment… it made their moment even MORE amazing!! They’ll never forgot that!!! The thing about Lisa is that she’s embraces that aspect about herself and you just have to love it!! She is who she is!! She’s smart, joyful and so full of life! There is never a dull moment around this girl and I adore her for that. John loves this about her too! These two crack each other up constantly!
