Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

  • Family Vacation 2014

we were little, we had some extravagant vacations with my family. Not extravanagant in the sense of “fancy”… they were extravagant because of all that we accomplished. When I was about 11 or 12, my parents loaded us up in our family motorhome and drove us out west… like, to the GRAND CANYON! ha! It was a three week adventure and we explored Yellowstone, the Rockies, the Badlands, etc. I remember it all. Well, now that we’re older and our schedules are all different, it’s hard to find an extended period of time to all be together.

We Need Some Advice!

  • Australia Bound

It can’t believe it’s almost here…. AUSTRALIA is almost here!! What?! I just visited my grandparents and told them that I was teaching a workshop in Australia and their response was “Are you FLYING there?!”. Haha. Well I’m definitely not driving! :) They’re cute. What they were trying to figure out was “Are you actually going all the way to AUSTRALIA?!”…. and the answer is yes. The more I say it, the more surreal it feels. I don’t know which is more exciting… the fact that I’m going to Australia or the fact that I’m meeting new photographer friends and spending TWO DAYS with them Australia!

A Big Spring Farm Wedding | Lexington VA

  • Chris + Sarah

This place will forever hold a special place in my heart. Not just because some of our best friends live on this gorgeous property, but because my sister got married here! Big Spring Farm has become a household name within the course of this past year and we were SO excited to shoot ANOTHER wedding there this past weekend! Chris and Sarah are friends of ours from back home. Sarah interned with our church’s youth group when Michael was on staff at our church and so we became very close during the summer of 2011! We met up for lunch and coffee every now and then and I heard about school and friends and eventually… this boy named Chris. Sarah met up with me one afternoon and shared that she was dating this guy and something was so different about him. Fast forward a few months and she told me that he may just be THE ONE!! Well, she was right!! The more I heard about Chris and his love for her, the more I loved their relationship.
