Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. The Story About Our First Paycheck

  • It's Pay Day!

It’s funny to say this…. but I have never truly gotten a REAL paycheck. Sure, I had a high school part time job (Beside’s “Katelyn’s Kraft’s”) but when you’re getting a $250 paycheck… it’s not the same as a REAL paycheck. I’m talking about a “big girl” paycheck.. the kind that had taxes and social security taken out, can pay a majority of your bills and is the same amount every two weeks. This has been a popular topic of discussion recently in some of the photography Facebook groups that I’m a part of. It’s somewhat of a touchy subject because it directly affects us. We are teachers. We have an educational side to our business that we absolutely love just as much as we love shooting weddings! So when people discuss on Facebook about how too many photographers are teaching, mentoring, coaching… it’s easy for me to get defensive. However, Michael always reminds me that those comments are probably not directed solely to people like us.
