Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

A Styled Anniversary Shoot

  • Craig + Lauren | Married

pulled up with the whole family in the car. The whole family consisted of Craig, Lauren, Holly and Sampson. Holly is the little one and Sampson is a one year old doodle and he was FULL of energy!! Of course Michael and I love anything “doodle” and I’m pretty sure that we’ll forever have puppies of some doodle decent for the rest of our lives! There is just something about them. I think it’s in their eyes… Sampson and Bokeh have very similar eyes and when you look them right in the face, you can’t help but melt a little bit. They are just the sweetest dogs. So Sampson and Holly started off the session with full family portraits!

Expanding Facebook Reach Without Boosting

  • Ask Anything

If you run a small business and have used Facebook for promotional and driving traffic to your blog, you have probably noticed a significant change in the last year. It’s not a positive change or a welcomed change by any means! We have a good amount of fans on Facebook and so until December, I never thought twice about our “Reach” and who was seeing our posts because life was still good for us in the Facebook realm. Thousands were seeing our updates… sometimes over 10,000! Pretty good right? Well, mid December, all of that changed… again. Facebook’s algorithms shifted again and they weren’t in our favor.

A Backyard Farm Wedding | Snow Hill, MD

  • Harrison + Rachel

She came home with a college roommate for the weekend… and like most weekend roadtrips in college, I’m sure she was just expecting to have a good time. I highly doubt that Rachel ever thought that a road trip to the eastern shore is where she would meet her future husband. Harrison and Rachel actually MET on Harrison’s grandfather’s farm in Snow Hill, MD. Several years later, they celebrated their wedding on the same property. How special is that?! What a dream!! From the old barns to the country roads without lines on the sides, I felt like I was back at home. Michael and I grew up in a very rural area and so country settings for weddings have a soft place in our hearts.
