Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

& Living Like Gypsies

  • Atlanta Meetup

that’s what we feel like!! Straight up gypsies! We’ve been staying at a different hotel the last three nights, living out of our rental car’s trunk and I even got ready in Target’s “Family Style” bathroom this evening! I locked the door and made it my own personal bathroom since we didn’t have time to check into our hotel before I spoke tonight. I changed, did my makeup and then plugged my curling iron in. The SCARY thing is that I placed the curling iron in the sink and while it heated up, I leaned forward to put on my mascara

They're Getting Married!!!

  • JR + Sarah | Proposal

I have found myself doing these shoots quite often…. I’ve actually done 2 in the last 10 days. PROPOSALS. YIKES! Talk about a nerve racking job!!! Jr is one of our good friends and so when he asked if we were available to document this, we told him we would love to be there. It really is an honor to document a proposal but GOSH it’s scary!! Picture this…. Michael and I are waiting in a little parking lot on the side of the James River anticipating JR and Sarah’s arrival. One downfall of having red hair is that it’s VERY noticeable. So in situations like this, I have to be covered up.

  • Coaching

be thinking “Gosh Katelyn, it seems like you’re coaching every week!”…. and that’s almost true. The past two months I have had coaching sessions back to back and while it’s a lot of work, I have had some amazing people come through our doors!! Amanda and Sarah are friends that I have known in the industry for a while. They have both attended workshops with me and other photographers in the area and they are all about making this dream happen!! What I love most about coaching sessions is allowing people to set their goals. It almost feels like I’m giving them that final PUSH that will take them over the top to make big things
