Hello and welcome to The Blog! I’m Katelyn James and I’m a Virginia + Destination Wedding Photographer based in Richmond, VA. Sit back, grab some coffee ( or my personal favorite, Diet Mountain Dew!) and enjoy viewing my latest work, meeting my fabulous clients and getting a little peek into my own life! I’m so excited that you stopped by! You can also view recent features right here! >>
is one of those days that seems surreal. There was a time in my business 3 years ago that I was barely keeping my head above water and I didn’t have time to dream or grow or explore anything new. Those were the days before outsourcing and GREAT systems. :) Now, I’m still busy but because I have handed over some things that I don’t HAVE to be doing, I can dream again!! One of my most recent goals has been to be able to teach ALL TYPES of small business owners! I did a coaching session with my friend Amanda a few weeks ago and she’s a floral designer… not a photographer!!
are some couples that I meet and instantly click with. Dan and Katelyn would definitely fall into that category. We met at beautiful Belle Haven plantation outside of Charlottesville and we were greeted by the property owner’s labradoodle! I’ve shot at this location before and so I was ready for the furry greeting. We chatted for a few minutes and then we started shooting. Dan and Katelyn just get it. They wanted pictures that showed THEM and their love and that’s my specialty!!
only took me about 5 minutes with Cheryl and Philip to realize that these two are FUN!! Cheryl has an energy that is contagious and Philip is up for anything. We met these two in DC for their engagement session last week in hopes of finding cherry blossoms….. we found two trees! And you know what? That was enough! We were able to shoot some beautiful portraits in this quaint little part of the Capital. This little strip of land lays right beside the Potomac River and it served us well! As we shot their portraits in, out, beside and behind the blossoms, we got to know these two.
emailed me months and months ago about scheduling an anniversary shoot while we were both together at the Connect Retreat. After some thought, she decided to save the money since they are in the midst of adopting which made perfect sense. However, a few days before we left for Georgia, we received an email from Casey. Let me tell you, he wins the “Husband of the Year” award for this one folks!! Casey had been saving and secretly emailed us about going forward with the shoot! He was smart and surprised Kristin before they left so that she could plan an outfit and she was thrilled!! And so were we!!
isn’t a “Finished” post by any means… it’s a “work in process” post! :) I’m just really excited about it! We inherited a mattress from Michael’s mom when we first moved into the house and it was wonderful because we had two usable guest rooms!! However, we knew that eventually we wanted to get some bedroom furniture and have some fun with this room… and when I say “we”…. I mean ME. Michael is so good to me. He lets me have fun and when you see what I put in this room, you’ll know that he had no say in the decor…. it’s super feminine…. and light and airy… and I love it!! :)
