Hello and welcome to The Blog! I’m Katelyn James and I’m a Virginia + Destination Wedding Photographer based in Richmond, VA. Sit back, grab some coffee ( or my personal favorite, Diet Mountain Dew!) and enjoy viewing my latest work, meeting my fabulous clients and getting a little peek into my own life! I’m so excited that you stopped by! You can also view recent features right here! >>
was during our CRAZIEST season of the year. Michael asked me about when we could do some senior portraits for a close friend of ours we literally couldn’t find a date when I was free. WE really wanted to try to make this happen but with a schedule like ours, it seems nearly impossible to find a time when I was free and available for a last minute shoot. So, after searching the calendar high and low, I said something I never thought I would say…. I told Michael I thought he should just do this shoot on his own. What?! Was that the crazy control freak LETTING GO of control?! Did I really just say that?!!!
probably thinking “This is going to be her weirdest post to date!” … and you may be right. You know you’re strange when you’re helping your sister bake an apple pie for Thanksgiving and simultaneously thinking of blog post ideas. Before I get into to it, let me explain that EVERYTHING about this situation was strange. Anyone in my family would tell you that Katelyn and baking are two things that don’t go together! I was honestly only in the kitchen because Emy (my sister) asked me to help her and I was counting this as quality “sister time”. I cut the apples, melted the sugar, kneaded the dough…
believe it’s over!! I look forward to this every single year and now today the wait has started all over again. Jazz Nativity is such a massive production for our church and I’m so proud of all of the hard work and energy that goes into making this masterpiece! So many volunteers give up their precious holiday time to serve and pitch in wherever they can. It’s amazing!!!!! We had so many friends come this year and I hope they come EVERY year!! In my opinion, this is the BEST way to kick off the Christmas season. Hands down! I mean, watching Elf is a close second… just kidding. This show will blow you away.
blown away to hear from blog readers across the pond! That’s just so cool!! I recently got an email from Peter from England and he was asking about lighting. So instead of typing all of this out in a long email, I thought it would be nice to just do a blog post! I’ve missed my Ask Anything series! During wedding season we are shooting so much that it’s hard to make time in the blogging schedule for educational posts. Well, now it’s the off season and I’m excited to be able to help some more!
that email me about a winter engagement shoot without hesitation always impress me! They aren’t worried one bit about the cold or lack of color… they just want to get their portraits done and they trust me! …. And that means a lot! Chris and Carley we in town for Thanksgiving and we just happened to be in the same city at the same time! We were all over the place for Thanksgiving this year and so it’s a small miracle that this worked out! We met in downtown Richmond and everything was perfect….
