Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

A Charlottesville Engagement Session | Belle Haven

  • Dan + Katelyn | Engaged

are some couples that I meet and instantly click with. Dan and Katelyn would definitely fall into that category. We met at beautiful Belle Haven plantation outside of Charlottesville and we were greeted by the property owner’s labradoodle! I’ve shot at this location before and so I was ready for the furry greeting. We chatted for a few minutes and then we started shooting. Dan and Katelyn just get it. They wanted pictures that showed THEM and their love and that’s my specialty!!

A Cherry Blossom Engagement Shoot

  • Philip + Cheryl | Engaged

only took me about 5 minutes with Cheryl and Philip to realize that these two are FUN!! Cheryl has an energy that is contagious and Philip is up for anything. We met these two in DC for their engagement session last week in hopes of finding cherry blossoms….. we found two trees! And you know what? That was enough! We were able to shoot some beautiful portraits in this quaint little part of the Capital. This little strip of land lays right beside the Potomac River and it served us well! As we shot their portraits in, out, beside and behind the blossoms, we got to know these two.

A Rome Georgia Anniversary Shoot

  • Casey + Kristin | Married

emailed me months and months ago about scheduling an anniversary shoot while we were both together at the Connect Retreat. After some thought, she decided to save the money since they are in the midst of adopting which made perfect sense. However, a few days before we left for Georgia, we received an email from Casey. Let me tell you, he wins the “Husband of the Year” award for this one folks!! Casey had been saving and secretly emailed us about going forward with the shoot! He was smart and surprised Kristin before they left so that she could plan an outfit and she was thrilled!! And so were we!!
