Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

A Backyard Farm Wedding | Snow Hill, MD

  • Harrison + Rachel

She came home with a college roommate for the weekend… and like most weekend roadtrips in college, I’m sure she was just expecting to have a good time. I highly doubt that Rachel ever thought that a road trip to the eastern shore is where she would meet her future husband. Harrison and Rachel actually MET on Harrison’s grandfather’s farm in Snow Hill, MD. Several years later, they celebrated their wedding on the same property. How special is that?! What a dream!! From the old barns to the country roads without lines on the sides, I felt like I was back at home. Michael and I grew up in a very rural area and so country settings for weddings have a soft place in our hearts.

Behind the Scenes

  • Joe + Emily | Part 3

is a FUN one! My sister’s wedding was absolutely amazing and it flowed smoothly because of so many people who helped us out!! Now, this isn’t the post where I’m going to breakdown how I shot her wedding. That’s coming later this week!! Today I’m showing some behind the scenes shots and thanking a VILLAGE of people who came alongside of us to make May 30th happen! Have you ever heard the phrase “It takes a village to raise a child?”… I hear it all the time when my friends with kids share about how much they need their family and friends. I think the same phrase could be used for wedding planning!

Are You Creative or Business Minded?

  • Ask Anything

I have a list in gmail (a LONG list) where I’m constantly adding blogging ideas as I receive emails with questions from photographers and others in the industry. The cool thing is that we have actually started getting more and more emails from SMALL BUSINESS owners and not just photographers. We have done some coaching for small business owners outside of the photography industry and I have to say, I LOVE IT! SO much of what Michael and I do in our business is transferrable to other industries. The whole idea of creating community? That’s not something that only wedding photographers are capable of!! (I’ll share more on that topic next week! Exciting things are in store!).
