Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

  • Coaching

last few months have been a whirlwind and we have had several coaching sessions mixed into our schedule! They were a blast! Two of them were out of town and I loved the change of scenery for headshots!! I think the most rewarding part of coaching is when I get a glimpse into these photographer’s lives. They’re all SO different. Different stories, different beginnings, new beginnings, different traditions and backgrounds….. This group kept me on my toes because all of them have different life situations.  This is why coaching never gets old!! …. Because it’s never the same!

Sweet Friends & Celebrations

  • The Bride & Groom Shower

sleeting outside and Facebook is full of frustrated comments about how old man winter needs to go ahead and leave. I’m the odd ball that actually loves bad weather. Sure, it’s not ideal when it gets in the way of our plans, but it slows life down…. and I like that. We’re gearing up for wedding season but the last week has been so wonderful. We didn’t have much on the calendar. We had several just “stay at home” work days and I got a lot accomplished. So bring on one last snow storm because I like the way it feels when life comes to a stand still for a day…. AND I have wedding invitations to design!

A Personal Struggle

  • Being Driven vs. Contentment

This post has been on my heart and my mind for a while. When I blog posts like this… it starts as a random thought… and then I start paying attention to these certain aspects of our life and then normally something sparks the need to write it. This week this process happened rather quickly. I had a thought a few days ago about contentment vs. being driven. My thought led to questions and then I read a post that made it clear that I needed to blog about this. I’ve been realizing recently that I don’t really have an “off” switch.
