Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. A Downtown Westchester, PA Engagement Shoot

  • Joe and Emily | Engaged Part 2

been in the back of my mind for weeks. With every spring engagement shoot I did I realized that my sister and her fiance’ Joe still hadn’t really had a real engagement shoot. We shot some quick portraits back in the fall, ONE DAY after they got engaged when we drove up to surprise them after our last wedding of the season. They were beautiful pictures! But I hadn’t given Emy any warning and so she didn’t get to pick out outfits or do her hair or pick a location. It was a fast little shoot so that they could get their Save the Dates out but I always wanted to do a real shoot with them in the spring. Well, spring is HERE!

... Crazy Decisions that are Worth It

  • People over Pictures

Where am I right now? I’m in PA. What was I doing at this time yesterday? I was hanging out with workshop attendees in our loving room. What am I doing tomorrow? A DC engagement shoot. It’s crazy…. and I never want to be the person that “Wears “BUSY” like a badge of honor”. We’ve all seen that quote pinned a bazillion times. I’m not sharing this because I want the world to know I’m super busy… I’m sharing this because I realized something today. I have always struggled with work/life balance. Am I really working too much? Should I go on vacation with my family even though I have 2 weddings to blog this week?

  • The Workshop Experience

a huge milestone for us!! We just completed our 4th 2-day workshop in our home. When we built the house, we made a goal of offering 4 workshops a year instead of 2 and we over tripled the length of them. We went from a 6 hour workshop day to over 24 hours of teaching time. Talk about a lot of talking!!! I have ZERO voice today and last night when the girls and I were going over branding and website tweaks, I sounded like I had been smoking for 20 years. My poor voice! haha But it’s gone for a good reason!!
