Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

The Workshop Experience | Adelaide, Australia

  • We're Australia Bound!

probably one of our top 5 biggest business announcements to date. It’s one of those decisions that we talked about and after coming to the conclusion that we wanted to go for it, “YOLO!” would have been an appropriate way to end the conversation! It’s true, you only live once and so why not give your dreams a shot!? Sure, it’s scary and it’s a risk but this is also one of the most exciting adventures we’ve ever attempted in our business and we’re ready for a challenge!! Michael has always had a lifelong dream of visiting this amazing country and I have always wanted to teach overseas

A Lake Gaston Engagement Shoot

  • Brandon + Brittany | Engaged

emailed me a few months ago and we weren’t available for their date and I apologized. And then I got the email that just baffled me. Brittany responded and said “No worries, we’re going to change our date!”. What?! This has happened before but every time a bride changes her plans in order to have us photograph this season of their life, I’m just amazed. I’m humbled and honored. What a huge compliment!! These two are awesome! We met at Brittany’s family’s lake house and then drove to some local locations for their shoot.

Instant Growth and Success....

  • Ask Anything

want this to be a depressing post. I really don’t… that’s just not my style! But I think I need to be honest about this…. I get a lot of emails and questions that go a little something like this “I’ve been in business for a year officially and I’m just wondering how you grew so fast.” Some are a little more in depth but often, I receive emails that are just short and sweet and straight to the point. “I want to grow and I want it to happen FAST”. I don’t blame them… who really wants a SLOW growing business?! No one…. at least no one that I know! We all want to move quickly because that’s the world we live in.
