Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

A Gift to My Sweet Brides!

  • 2013 Bridal Spa Day

was a busy busy day for us! We hosted the 3rd annual, “Katelyn James Bridal Spa Day” at the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa in Short Pump! This is an event that we look forward to hosting every year! What better way to spend a Saturday than receiving a free spa treatment and then Christmas shopping!? One by one, our brides made it into the RedDoor Spa on Saturday and it was one big reunion! We missed all of our “out of state” brides but they’ll be receiving a special little something in the mail soon! :)

A Destination Engagement | Punta Cana Dominican Republic

  • Justin + Chasity | Engaged

say that an engagement session is a VERY vital part of the whole wedding photography experience. However, when your clients live in Alaska and you live in Virginia, making a shoot happen can be a little tricky! Thankfully, Justin and Chasity were willing to have an engagement sessions before their rehearsal dinner! It was perfect timing. The afternoon storm had past and the sun was out. We hit so many wonderful locations on the Secrets Resort property and we had a chance to really get to know one another before the wedding day!

But also a day to be thankful!

  • Sick Day

Today is a sick day. I’m not deathly ill… just a cold. But it’s one of those colds that leaves you feeling absolutely horrible in the mornings and then you feel close to normal by 10am but all you want to do is sit on the couch wrapped up in a blanket!! As I got up in the middle of the night to blow my nose, take more tylenol and try to fall back asleep. I became SO thankful that I’m not one to get sick very often. This happens about twice a year and that’s the extent of my “sickness”. I have a pretty good immune system considering all of the traveling we do and our seasons where we lack sleep!
