Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!Β  Read more...

Tips for Shooting a Rainy Wedding Day

  • Ask Anything

of most frequently asked questions that we receive during wedding season is “Soooo, what do you do if it RAINS?!”. I posted about this way back in 2011 but that post was really just written for my brides. I wanted to reassure them that even if it rains, they will still have beautiful portraits and BRIGHT colors in their images! Overcast skies means vibrant colors! This post is geared more towards all of the photographers out there that cringe at the thought of rain on a wedding day! I’m with you. I don’t love rain on wedding days BUT I’ve learned that a little or even A LOT of rain doesn’t mean you can’t capture great portraits in natural light!

The Bloopers

  • Our Real Life

that time of the year again!! Time to show off our Behind the Scenes Bloopers! I personally LOVE seeing everyone’s posts from the backend of their business. The moments we accidentally capture while trying to produce gorgeous, romantic images are quite hilarious!! So while half of the country is shivering in sub zero temperatures, I hope this post provides some comic relief!! We are still in Seattle and are about to host our first ever COACHING HUDDLE and we’re so excited! Enjoy these “Behind the Scenes” from 2013 and try not to judge us. We look a little rough in some of these images!

& Entering the Arctic

  • Leaving Paradise

we caught ourselves shivering in 60 degrees today in Hawaii. WOW. That’s how fast we grew used to this amazing weather!! How in the WORLD are we going to survive when we come home to the coldest temperatures of the YEAR?! Some friends are posting instagrams of -18 degrees in some parts of the country! YIKES! I’m praying that everyone’s heat is working well and that all of our friends in those arctic temperatures stay toasty somehow. Michael and I are in Seattle for a quick 48 hours and then we’ll be heading home and I’m praying that it’s warmer by the time we get there!
