Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!Β  Read more...

A Historic Richmond Engagement Shoot

  • Jeff + Julia | Engaged

I thought “Aw, I think we’re done with “weddings” phase in our group of friends!” I remember that all of my roommates have SIBLINGS! The fun isn’t over yet!! I’m shooting two weddings in 2014 for the younger siblings of two of my college roommates and I couldn’t be more excited! One of those weddings is Jeff and Julia’s! We already know and love the Rice family so much and so it’s such an honor to be a part of another wedding with their family! This past Monday, I met Jeff and Julia in downtown Richmond for their engagement session.

A Rustic West Virginia Wedding

  • Seth + Stacey

I’m not sure how it happened this way but this month we have had TWO weddings in West Virginia! Crazy right? I don’t think I’ve ever shot a wedding in West Virginia until this month and I have to say, Michael and I are becoming pros at that northwest drive! We’ve learned that apparently drivers in PA need a ton of road signs in order to know how to be safe on the road. We’ve also learned that any road north of us is going to have a toll at one point or another! Last but not least, we’ve learned that north western VA, western Maryland and PA and North East West Virginia are all beautiful parts of the east coast! Just gorgeous! As we pulled up to Seth and Stacey’s wedding location, the views were spectacular and I was so excited for their portraits!

Getting Published | Part 1

  • Ask Anything

This is a question that I am asked often. “How do I get published?!” It’s a tricky question to answer because getting “Published” means all sorts of things to photographers these days! To me, getting “Published” and getting “Featured” are two different things. I think of Publishing as PRINT and Features as BLOGS and online posts. When it comes to getting published/featured, I think deep down, EVERY photographer wants some type of recognition for their work. It feels good to see your work in a magazine or on a national wedding blog but let me say this…..
