Getting Published | Part 1

This is a question that I am asked often. “How do I get published?!” It’s a tricky question to answer because getting “Published” means all sorts of things to photographers these days! To me, getting “Published” and getting “Featured” are two different things. I think of Publishing as PRINT and Features as BLOGS and online posts. When it comes to getting published/featured, I think deep down, EVERY photographer wants some type of recognition for their work. It feels good to see your work in a magazine or on a national wedding blog but let me say this…..

A Clover Forest Plantation Wedding

There are a few venues around the Richmond area that I consider hidden “gems”. These properties are tucked away in little nooks and crannies of the surrounding Richmond area and they are just gorgeous. The Mill at Fine Creek is one of those venues and we’ll be shooting there this coming weekend and Clover Forest Plantation is another one of those “gems” that we love! I shot a wedding at this venue last spring and fell in love with the whole area! This gorgeous location is hidden in the rolling hills of Goochland and I was so excited to shoot Steven and Julie’s wedding there this past Saturday! Not only is the venue perfect but the weather was perfect as well! A beautiful 70 degrees and clear skies! I have found that the more weddings I shoot and the more I blog, the more brides I book that are very similar to me.

talked about this before on the blog… but you know, I’ve been blogging for so long now that I feel like I can mention things again and no one would really notice! haha I’ve mentioned before that I find it REALLY hard to get personal projects done when you are running a small business. Because the reality of a small business is that it’s your PERMANENT, lifelong personal project! It literately never ends. the job is never done. SO, what I have found is that if you want to have a LIFE and you want to get LIFE projects done, you have to make a realistic daily list for the business and then make a conscious
