Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

A Surprise While I Was Gone

  • The Bike

It’s not uncommon for Michael to randomly say “Hey, I have a surprise for you today”. He does it all the time. Whether it’s dinner at a new place or tickets to a movie, he loves making it a surprise! I think he enjoys surprises because he’s the only one that can actually get away with them. I’m HORRIBLE at surprising people….. especially Michael. So when I received a call during my Chicago coaching session, I wasn’t too shocked. Michael called and all he said was “Sorry to interrupt but do I have permission to surprise you? it’s pretty obvious by now that if I could do anything in my free time, it would be DECORATING! It’s by far my favorite thing to do! I’d take a Homegoods giftcard over a Cheesecake Factory giftcard any day! … But Michael would disagree. It’s just so much fun to “design” a space! With the new house, I have to admit that I was a little overwhelmed. I have NEVER had so many rooms to decorate and plan out! I learned very quickly that the decorating will take some time and that I should enjoy the process. Well I’m definitely enjoying the process but I’m not one to sit around and put off massive

A Fredericksburg Anniversary Shoot

  • Rob + Alicia | Married

photographer that has shot a portrait session with a dog involved knows that it can be challenging. I recently shot an engagement session with 4 DOGS! It’s tricky to try to contain them and make them photogenic. Not all dogs have been trained as well as my Bokeh boy :). However, Rob and Alicia brought their puppy, Granger to their shoot and I was SO impressed with her. Not only do Rob and Alicia have incredible modeling skills, Granger does too!!! So well behaved! I loved meeting this sweet little family in downtown Fredericksburg for their 2 year anniversary shoot this week.
