Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!Β  Read more...

And Not Feeling Guilty About It

  • Taking a Break

I’ve heard it said before that taking a break from work will actually make you desire to work MORE. When I’m in really dry, burnout mode, I tend to think that saying is just a bunch of fluff…. but I have actually found it to be true. Michael and I had 3 Saturdays off in a row this summer and it was life changing! …. I’m serious. It was SO needed! I still shot engagements and worked during the week but just having some weekends free changed everything. We have decided that breaks are necessary for us and we’ll be saving a few 2014 weekends for US. I have a bad habit of over committing. I say yes to so many people because I find so much joy in making people happy. Well, the result of this character trait is that I grow resentful.

An Office Update | Canvas & Curtains

  • The New House

like the way Young House Love blogs about their home projects! They don’t just share a 100% completed room all at once, they show the progress! Well that’s the approach we’re taking with our new house! It’s not done but it’s definitely getting closer and closer each month! This past month, I worked on my office a little bit. Several weeks ago I asked all of your blog readers to give your opinion about which image I should blow up for my office wall and the response was GREAT!! I loved hearing everyone’s opinion! Well, I’m excited to show you which one I picked!!

A Whimsical Wisconsin Wedding

  • Ryan + Paige

I have said it it so many times, we love being a part of friend and family weddings! Some photographers don’t like the pressure and responsibility that comes with shooting a family member’s wedding but I have to say that I wouldn’t want it any other way. Michael and I absolutely loved being a part of Paige and Ryan’s big day! The two of us and my dad made the journey to Wisconsin early on Friday morning and before I knew it, we were at rehearsal dinner with family that we hadn’t seen in over two years!! The last time we visited family at the lake, it was for Paige’s brother’s wedding two years prior. I only wish there were more cousins left in this family so that our pilgrimage to the lake could continue!! We love it up there. It was a perfect 75 degrees and 0% humidity! VERY different from the Florida weather we experienced two weeks ago!
