Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

Classic Richmond Engagement | Monument Avenue

  • Ryan + Alina | Engaged

I’m introducing you to Ryan and Alina!! These two are going to be married in 2014 and I’m so excited to be a part of this season of their life! When I showed up at their new apartment in downtown Richmond, we talked and got to know one another and it wasn’t long until the topic of Bokeh came up…. which always makes me happy. :) Michael and I are proud puppy parents and we love that other people find him just as cute as we do! Ryan and Alina were about to bring home their first puppy and I remember how exciting that was for Michael and I!

A Farvue Farm Wedding, Goochland VA

  • Judson + Catie

As you know from reading the blog and hearing about our life, Michael and I love looking at homes…. especially homes on the water. After building our new house, we have become even more obsessed with looking at impressive homes with gorgeous architecture. Our favorite homes are always on the water. I mean how amazing would it be to lookout over a river or a lake in your backyard?! So when we pulled up to Judson and Catie’s venue, I knew that Michael was going to love the view from the backyard! It’s just beautiful! The ceremony took place on the back lawn and the guests overlooked the James River as Judson and Catie were married. Everything was just perfect and went according to plan… except for the train that decided to roll past RIGHT after Catie walked down the aisle!

Being a Husband/Wife Team

  • What We're Capable Of

When we started sharing that we were considering working together as a husband and wife team, there were many questions. Well, what about health insurance? How many weddings will you take on as a team? What is Michael going to do? What are you going to do as a team that you weren’t already doing on your own?…. And my answer was always the same “I don’t know.” I had no clue. At some point I remember telling someone that I had no idea what we were capable of together as a team because we had never tried this before. Adding Michael into KJP full time has really changed everything.
