Help! I'm Shooting My First Wedding!

  • Ask Anything

It’s crazy wild how fast this industry is growing. People ask me “So do you think anyone can be a photographer” and I feel very confident when I answer “No”. I don’t think anyone can do this and succeed at it. However, I do think that everyone has a right to try. We can’t get frustrated with the new photographers entering the industry everyday because at one point in our own lives, we sat down and thought “Maybe I could actually do this! • Drew + Becca | Engaged

close to three years ago when I hosted my first large scale workshop here in Richmond. I was newly married and I finally had a chance to pour my time and energy into teaching and I was really excited about it! We launched registration for the “Sugar Shoot” and I was so pumped to meet the 20 photographers who would be attending! I was SHOCKED when I saw that a young, aspiring photographer would be traveling all the way from FLORIDA! What?!! That’s so crazy!! I couldn’t wait to meet her. That young photographer was Becca! She was so brave to travel up north to spend a day with photographers she didn’t know!

  • Family Vacation

are families that go to the same place for vacation year after year. It could be the beach, or a lakehouse or even a cabin in the mountains. Well the James family has never been one of those families and I love that about us! We grew up traveling for vacations in our RV… whatever that was at the time. We’ve camped in just about EVERY type of camper there is. At one time or another, Daddy has owned a tent, a pop-up camper, a few Class C campers, a few Class A campers, a converted charter bus and a travel trailer or two. The only thing we haven’t camped in is a 5th wheel! Have I lost any of you with all of this RV talk? It’s really a different world of vacationing!
