HEADSHOT 1-8478

Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

Re-Vamped!

  • The Workshop Experience

ever envisioned something and then dreamed about it, wondering if one day it would come to fruition? My business has been through many seasons of that. Some things have happened and some dreams are still left to accomplish. There was a night last fall when I stayed up until almost 3am contemplating my workshops and what I wanted them to look like in the future. I LOVE my workshops! They are so much fun and I still keep in touch with attendees… even some that came 3 years ago! It’s very much a “Family” style experience when you gather a group of photographers together for one day to learn and grow!

A Peek Inside!

  • New House Tour

I had told Michael that I didn’t want to show any pictures of the house until I felt like it was done…. like 100% decorated. Well, I quickly realized that that is not realistic… at all. I LOVE to decorate… it’s my hobby and what I choose to do for fun! So when we moved in, I went to town! However, there is little thing called a “budget” that can really slow down the decorating process and I have reached a point where I have had to stop and take things one step at a time. This is totally fine because we’re in the midst of wedding season and I don’t have much time for decorating right now.

A Coral and Teal Hampton Wedding

  • Jonathan + Anna

We turned off the interstate with 2 hours to kill before we started shooting Jonathan and Anna’s wedding day. You never know how 64 is going to treat you and so we left with plenty of cushion time. As we pulled up to the church, I realized “I know this place!”. It was the same church that our friends Mandy and Josh were married in last May! It’s gorgeous and so southern! I was already aware of the location around the church but we decided to take a little drive to waste some time and we found a beautiful abandoned home that just so happened to match the wedding colors!! SCORE! When it came time for bridal party portraits, we made sure the house wasn’t occupied and then we made great use of the beautiful porch! It was perfect! There are so much hidden gems in that part of downtown Hampton! It almost resembled a downtown Charleston wedding!
