Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

Scotland 2019

  • A Family Adventure in Oban & Ardgour

Some of you may think we’re crazy to have attempted this trip. It’s understandable. We left Virginia for a ten day trip to Scotland with a 29 month old and 3 month old. Believe me, we had our reservations about this. It would have been very easy to say “No, not this year”…. but we had the time off…. we loved our last Scotland trip… new friends would be joining us on this trip… and honestly, we wanted to redeem the fact that we lost our chance to go to Europe last year because I was still pregnant with Baby James and I couldn’t travel in case we lost him while we were gone. Talk about a sad reason to miss out on a trip with friends. It was awful.

Graham’s Second Month

Today Graham is three months old! No, that is not a typo. I realize this is Baby Graham’s TWO MONTH blog post but it’s just a month late. Oops. In my defense, we had a lot of weddings in May and June… and then a week long conference that was out of state… and then fourth of July at the Lake… and then we were in Scotland for ten days and just returned this past Saturday. Whew. It’s been pretty busy around here. While we love to be active and do a lot with our time, we also love just being home. I’m so excited to get to a chance to go through our personal pictures from the past two months and pick my favorites.

Nick + Gillian | Engaged

  • Destination Glencoe Engagement Session | Scotland

Well I can barely contain my excitement today! We are about 48 hours out from returning from our trip to Scotland and I still have piles of laundry to do, but I couldn’t wait to share this! Nick and Gillian drove over FOUR HOURS to meet us at one of my favorite locations in Scotland. When we visit Scotland, we normally spend all of our time in the highlands because it’s beautiful there and that’s where our friend Jill’s family is from. Glencoe is unbelievable. The views are amazing and remind us a lot of Hawaii! Ever since I saw this location on our trip two years ago, I secretly hoped I would be able to shoot there one day!! Well, last week, my dreams came true!!
