Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia Photographer

  • Robbie + Nicole | Engaged

for a treat! Yup! right here on the blog. You’re going to love this couple and you’re going to love them 10x more when you see their classy 2nd outfit.  Robbie loves to dress up and Nicole had a fabulous pair of heels that had never been worn. This all worked in my favor. We had an amazing time in Colonial Williamsburg last week.  It was a tad chilly but we made it just in time to catch some leaves before they were gone for good. Winter kinda becomes depressing for photographers.  Not much sun, not terrific light, not many colors… so I was happy to have one last session with color that POPS!

The Candy Bar Re-Vamped

  • Wedding Wednesday

Have you ever heard that term used to describe items that have been slightly used. Well, today I am labeling these apothecary jars as “previously loved”. You may recognized this little collection of glass because it was formerly known as the 101010 Candy Bar (my favorite station at the reception!)  It was filled with teal m&m’s, yogurt covered raisens, chocolate caramel balls and vanilla mints.  It was beautiful.  However, like everything else from 101010, after the festivities ended they reclaimed their position in the basement of my parent’s house. Last weekend Michael and I went home to visit and I came back with a CAR LOAD of stuff!

West Virginia Portrait Photographer

  • Will | Senior

Thanksgiving trip to Michael’s Aunt Susan and Uncle Ed’s home in Charleston, WV we took some portrait’s for Michael’s cousin… and when I say “we”… I mean that I took the pictures and Michael followed me around distracting all of the dogs so that they wouldn’t join in the picture! ha! It was by far the fastest senior session I have EVER done in my life. I should have timed myself because I’m pretty sure I beat the Senior Session world record. Will’s pictures were done in about 15 minutes! It helped that Susan has a beautiful yard! Doing senior portraits for a boy is so different than shooting portraits for a girl. Girls get into it….like REALLY into it.
