Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

When Friends Want to Book You

  • Ask Anything

This is a tough post for me to write, because we do a lot of friends and family weddings!! However, one of the most common questions that we get asked is how to handle these situations. I never thought that I would write about this on my blog, because it can be tricky to publicly share our thought process. I’m writing this not to make our friends and family feel bad for discounts, (we are the ones who gave the discounts anyway… which is part of one of my points I’ll share later on!) but to encourage photographers to maintain professionalism while also finding a way to serve those whom they are closest to!

We Need Your help! | The Baby Registry

  • What's Important and What's Not

We’ve already experienced that everyone has opinions about all things baby and we totally expected that. Some people don’t think you should find out the gender, and some people want us to share name ideas, but that’s probably not going to happen. This entire experience is 100% new to us and so we’re just going with the flow and figuring things out along the way. However, I’ll take ALL the advice I can get when it comes to the baby registry!!!

Creating a Tribe

  • Ask Anything

The older I get the more I learn about myself. I’ve learned that I need an equal dose of motivational encouragement AND reality to make my big dreams happen. I’ve also realized through the years that often times I don’t dream big enough. So how do you find the happy medium? Well I’m not sure. I’m not an “expert dreamer”, but I do have a few thoughts on the topic!! We recently had the honor of celebrating a HUGE accomplishment with some of our dear friends! They came to us about a year ago and told us their big ideas, and we started brainstorming and problem solving.
