Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

A Christmas Surprise

  • Christmas 2015

I’ll be the first to admit that we didn’t get to where we are today without help. The truth is, Michael and I owe SO much of what we have and what we have accomplished to our parents. Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to graduate without massive student loans… without them we wouldn’t have grown up in Christian homes with examples of Godly marriages…with them, I wouldn’t have started a business at age twenty. This Christmas, I stood up in Michael’s parent’s living room in front of all four of our parents sitting on the couch and tried to thank them for all of these things.

Our Favorite New Venues of 2015

  • Wedding Wednesday

Michael and I loved our 2015 wedding season! We loved it because we love our KJ Brides and Grooms but we ALSO loved it because we had so many opportunities to shoot at new-to-us venues!! Woohoo! This is a guaranteed way to stay fresh and creative!! It’s like a fresh canvas for me! Now don’t get me wrong… I LOVE shooting at my favorite venues over and over again but every now and then, it’s fun to have something new!

What Did You REALLY Make?

  • Ask Anything

It’s the end of the year and the beginning of a new one which means several things. 1. We all have new goals, 2. We’re using this off season time to get our big projects done and 3. We should have a clear picture of what we made last year. As a creative, I HATE looking at the numbers. As a business owner, I know it’s something I have to understand. There aren’t a lot of creatives who love the business side of things and I can totally understand that. However, it worries me that a lot of small business owners don’t REALLY know how much money they are making.
