Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

How We Selected Our Builders

  • Building a Home Made for Hosting

So you may have seen that we’re on a trip this week with our parents. So for those of you who are about to send me an email and fuss at me for working on vacation… you should know that I pre-blogged this whole week!! I know this may seem a little pre-mature being that we haven’t even started the building process but I really wanted to tell the story about how we selected our builders and why we love them so much! If any of you have ever built a home before, you know that it’s an incredibly intricate process that is also VERY personal. You’re literally trusting someone to construct the dwelling that you’re going to spend the majority of your life in… unless of course you are like us and you feel like you live in an airport!

3 Conferences, 3 Days, 3 States

  • Highlights

This past week I spoke at THREE conferences in THREE DAYS in THREE STATES. What. were. we. thinking? I’ll tell you what we were thinking…. we booked Maine almost 8 months ago. Then we were asked to be a part of Creative Heart for Round Four! YAY!!! Then I got asked to speak at Making Things Happen and that’s such an honor as well …. and it’s all in the same weekend. So, because I married an amazing travel agent, we made it happen! I flew from Charleston to Maine, Maine to Baltimore and then drove from Annapolis to Chapel Hill. And I didn’t get sick and I wasn’t even that tired!

Carter + Steph | Engaged

  • A Quirk Hotel + Richmond Pipeline Engagement

I’ve been so excited for this session and it’s not because these two are cute and it’s not because of Steph’s style…even though those are both great reasons to get excited for a shoot! I have been looking forward to this shoot because Steph is such a dear friend of mine and I am so excited for her!! We were college roomies and I have always looked forward to the day when I would get the call that she had found “the one”. I remember it perfectly… I was pulling out of the Willow Lawn Shopping center and my phone was buzzing. I saw it was Steph and I had a funny feeling that it was an important call.
