Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

Curtis + Lauren | Engaged

  • A Maymont Engagement Session

When the first part of the first email talks about how a bride just got engaged to her high school sweetheart… it catches my attention. These two have dated LONGER than Michael and I did! We dated for 8 YEARS and Curtis and Lauren have us beat!! They met while working at Ukrops during their teenage years…. and now all of us Virginians are craving White House rolls and rainbow cookies… am I right?! Evidently White House Rolls are loved by their ENTIRE family because Charley (their cute pup) didn’t have a bag of Beggin Strips… he had a bag of chopped up White House Rolls instead!

Ray + Caitlin | Engaged

  • A Historic Church Hill Engagement Session

After meeting these two, it’s official. We not only have the most beautiful couples, we also have the most thoughtful ones as well! Ray and Caitlin voluntarily drove down from northern Virginia for their downtown engagement session. They don’t live in Richmond and they didn’t go to school in Richmond… they just wanted a gorgeous location and they knew it was easier for me. Sweethearts! It was so wonderful to shoot in our hometown last week and not travel to DC since we had a double header wedding weekend coming up.

Our House Is Officially on the Market!

  • And Why We’re Moving ...

Well, this is quite a crazy post to write. It’s official, we’re moving!! We have been casually mentioning this under the radar over the last three weeks but it’s not hear-say, it’s really happening! And I can say that with certainty because as of today, our house is on the market!! It’s listed and we’re having an open house in Saturday!! Our most common response is WHY?! WHY would you leave this BRAND NEW, BEAUTIFUL house that you JUST built?! That’s a fair question…. and it’s kind of hard to answer because there are so many pieces to this puzzle.
