72 Hours in Iceland

  • Weddings, Waterfalls, Worth It.

I’m sure some people are going to think this is craziness. It kind of is. Michael and I photographed a wedding in Roanoke, VA (no where near a big airport) and then flew out to Iceland the very next day. We got into Iceland at midnight and then started photographing Hayden and Geli’s wedding day the very next morning with Buddy and Jill! It was a rush but it was fun! Jill and I had sore feet but when you’re photographing a gorgeous bride with your best friends in the middle of ICELAND, you don’t worry about your feet!!!

We finished the wedding day and then prepared for day two with the crew. Our friends Jordan and Amy, Tyler and Ashley and Trevor and Kari were all there with us! Along with Ryan and Annamarie of course (Anna’s baby sister was the bride!!). So we spent Wednesday seeing three AMAZING Icelandic waterfalls and ending the day with an incredible dinner! I think I ate more lobster bisque in these 72 hours than I have in 3 years! We pushed hard on Wednesday because it was really our only chance to tour around the island. There are over 20 well-known waterfalls that we DIDN’T get to see and so that just means that we need to go back! We didn’t even get all the way down to Vik on this trip but we saw enough to know that Iceland is definitely an incredible gem that is often overlooked! We absolutely loved it there and even though we have see amazing waterfalls in other parts of the world, none of them have compared to these!!!

We’re so thankful for this little trip! We’re all about packing in the adventures before life changes in February…. but then again, we have trips planned for 2017 where that little girl/guy is going with us! So we’re praying for a good traveling baby!! One of my favorite parts of this trip was getting to be with Jill while we are both pregnant!! We may have gotten a little more out of breath than the others but hey! We totally kept up!!!

So enjoy these three falls and our adventures! We cannot WAIT to go back… I think our next Iceland trip needs to include renting an RV!!! :)

Hi Katelyn – I was pointed to your website from a friend of mine, and I just adore your work. I was particularly drawn to your travel pics and your Iceland photos, having just returned from a vacation in Iceland for 8 days with my husband and almost 2 year old. The scenery is truly otherworldly – I love the way you’ve captured it. Cheers, Krystil
