Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. Portraits in Paradise

  • Aloha Vaca 2013 | Part 3

the new Alsop family rule… when you’re in paradise, you HAVE to have some portraits done! I don’t care if we have to use a tripod and a “clicker”… I LOVE having portraits of us on our travels and I’ll do just about anything to get them! We should have warned Josh and Mandy about my picture-taking on vacations before we left. Actually, it’s probably a good thing that we didn’t because it may have deterred them. I have a problem with…. well….. stopping. Everything is so beautiful that I could shoot portraits ALL DAY LONG. It was almost overwhelming how beautiful it was!

A Rustic Lexington Virginia Wedding Venue

  • Big Spring Farm

sat our friends Buddy and Jill down when we first started dreaming of what it would be like to go full time together and told them everything. Our fears, our hopes, and all of the big decisions that needed to be made. There is something so powerful about sharing your dreams and your burdens with close friends. They prayed for us and with us and were a part of the whole process. So fast forward about a year…. Bud and Jill came to see the new house and as we were finishing the tour of the upstairs, the conversation changed and they said “So, we have some crazy news”.

A Library Inspired Engagement Shoot | CNU

  • John + Lisa | Engaged

you remember last Friday? If you are in Virginia, it was a nasty day. Torrential downpours, grey skies and it was going to stay that way ALL DAY. The problem with this was that I was driving down to my alma mater for an engagement session. This shoot wasn’t something we could reschedule because John and Lisa traveled from NEW YORK to have these done on campus!! I will admit that as my windshield wipers were going at full speed on the drive down, I was a little concerned. However, I can honestly say that despite the rain, this is one of my favorite campus engagement sessions!
