• Going Green

decided about two weeks before Christmas that he REALLY wanted to enter into the Vitamix world. Well, this was a surprise to me…. especially since I had already purchased Michael’s Christmas a week earlier!!! I debated it. Those things are PRICEY and while I really wanted to try out the whole “Green Drink” phenomenon, I wasn’t sure if it was really all that it was cracked to be. You see, Michael loves gadgets and since I love Michael…. I bought him one. I returned some of his other gifts that were just “so-so” and surprised Michael with his dream blender on Christmas morning!

We brought it home and immediately started trying to figure out recipes! That’s where you guys come in! I mentioned needing some smoothie advice on Instagram and we had such a great response!! For those of you that have found the PERFECT smoothie recipe, we want to hear about it!! Now we can’t try EVERY single recommendation… however, whichever recipe we try first, the person that recommended it will win some Starbucks goodness! Now I realize that some of you healthy smoothie fanatics may not love Starbucks… buttttt you should splurge every now and then! :) So if you have a recipe for something AMAZING to mix together with our new kitchen toy, let us know! We’re such newbies at this!!!! xoxo

*** Congrats to Kristine!!! We’re trying your recipe!!! YAY!! We can’t wait!! ***

At least 2 cups frozen blueberries
1/2-1 cup Frozen mangoes (or fresh)

We enjoy a smoothie most mornings and even our kiddos love it! We get a lot of our stuff from trader joes right now. :)

my favorite green smoothie: Quick and easy
    2 cups water
    2 cups spinach
    then add: 2 stalks celery
    1 apple, 1 pear and 1 banana
    blend until smooth.
(You can switch out one or more of the fruits with a berry mix for variety)
I like this because I have all these ingredients in my kitchen on a regular basis. I don’t have to go out and buy anything to make the smoothie.

1 scoop Arbonne chocolate protein powder (opt.) + 1 Tbsp ground flax seed + 1/2 cup water + 1 large handful baby kale (add more water to cover about 1/5 of the kale if needed). Blend until liquid. Add 1/2 cup blackberries + 1/2 cup mangoes + 1/4 cup 100% frozen apple juice concentrate. Enjoy!

This is the smoothie I usually make for our fam – it’s our favorite. =) And super simple! You throw in a couple cups of strawberries, a handful of blueberries, a frozen banana (sweetness right there!), some raspberries, and almost cover with orange juice. I also will add yogurt and/or ice at times. Yummy and healthy. :) Enjoy your vitamix – it sounds like an awesome tool!

    Green smoothie option:
2 cups or so of spinach
    Cup of yogurt
    1-2 T of peanut butter
    1 banana
OMG, so easy and very filling! Jazz it up further with any berries you have on hand…not the lightest or most veggie packed, but a great lunch on the run, and lots of protein!

I stink in love Vitamix. I have one and it’s been around for about 10 years! Love making green smoothies!
My favorite (right now) is 1 oikos Dannon greek yogurt, (single serving… i think 5.3 oz?) It has about 12 grams of protein so it provides my boost for the morning! Then about a half cup of water/milk/coconut milk/almond milk etc. If you like a thick smoothie, add a half of banana. :) Then about 8 frozen strawberries, 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries and a cup of frozen raspberries. Then I grab about 3 handfuls of spinach. :) Kale is okay too, but you have to blend it a little extra because it can get kinda gritty:)
Also… If you use Carrot Juice as your liquid, spinach or kale as your green, Banana as your base/thickener, then some strawberries to make it taste even better.. that’s a heck of a smoothie. Carrot Juice is SO sweet anyway and it’s soooo good!
As you can tell, I pretty much don’t follow exact recipes, I just throw in whatever and know what tastes good, and when I pour myself a cup it’s always a little different. :) makes it more interesting. :))

This is a husband approved green smoothie :) this recipe is a his + hers because it makes enough for 2 smoothies. Great way to start off the morning!

    – 3 cups baby spinach
    – 1 cup coconut water (vita coco)
    – 1/3 cup canned pineapple chunks + a little juice from the can
    – 3 TBS of Whey Protein powder (regular or vanilla)
    – whole pear (chopped up)
    – 6-7 walnut halves
    – 2 cups ice

i’ve used vitamixes for years, and they are incredibly versatile. one of my favourite things to make in it is gravy (absolutely fab). but for smoothies this is our old standby:
    1 can crushed pineapple
generous handful of mixed frozen fruit
    a dash of orange juice
(and if you’re feeling adventurous): kale
kale dosen’t really change the taste of the drink, only the look. if anything, it adds a kiwi twist! it’s awesome. and congrats at making the big purchase!

    -vanilla powder

    -almond milk

I got mine for christmas last year, and there is definitely a learning curve between chunky green smoothies and the stuff of youtube videos. Yesterday I made a great one! I think the trick to making them go down quick is not too much ice. It’s not a green slushie…it’s a green drink (and goes down faster that way).

Layer the following from the bottom up:
    1 grapefruit (watch the seeds)
    1/4 lemon
    1 large kale leaf
    1 hand full of spinach
    A few mint leaves

Blend on high until you see no leafy bits. Then add 4 ice cubes and blend until you hear no clicking ice chips. Should be cold, but texture of a thick juice, not a slushie. That made 1 12oz serving.

I’m super duper late here…. But I like easy. So here’s my go to.

    Handful of baby spinach
    handful of frozen mixed fruit
(mine has peach, mango, strawberry and pineapple)
and a splash of orange juice

If I want protein, I just add a couple tbsp. of my fave yogurt
